ESAAMLG 48th Task Force : Mauritius recognised for progress made on AML/CFT matters

The 48th Task Force of Senior Officials Meeting and 24th Council of Ministers Meeting of the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) was held on the 23-31 August 2024 in Kenya. The event witnessed the participation of +400 delegates from the 21 ESAAMLG Member Countries, representatives of Cooperating and Supporting Nations and Organisations including: Portugal, UK, USA, representatives of key organisations such as: COMESA Secretariat, FATF Secretariat, GIZ, IMF, UN FAST Initiative and UNODC as well as officials from ESAAMLG partners: the EU Global AML/CFT Facility and EU AML/CFT ESCAY.
The ESAAMLG Task Force is convened twice a year and serves as a platform for discussion revolving around AML/CFT issues and challenges. Key progress noted for Mauritius included the implementation of a case management system for handling requests for Mutual Legal Assistance and facilitation of exchange of information by supervisory authorities with their foreign counterparts through the establishment of Memoranda of Understanding. As one of the founding members of the ESAAMLG, Mauritius stays committed to its objective of implementing a transparent framework for AML/CFT matters and it is continuously reviewing its regulations to ensure adherence to best international practice and principles.
