According to the 5th edition of the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI 2024) published on 12 September 2024, Mauritius ranks 1st in Africa in terms of cybersecurity.  Boasting a perfect score of 100/100 over the 5 pillars of assessment – namely Legal Measures, Technical Measures,  Organizational Measures, Capacity Development, and Cooperation –  the island has been classified as a Tier 1 country and is one of the only 5 African countries to have been classified as such.

The CGI measures countries’ commitment to cybersecurity at global level. The emergence of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and blockchain in the past couple of years has accentuated the need for countries to establish proper strategies around cybersecurity to ensure resilience and secured digitalization.

Launched in 2015, the CGI is the flagship report of the International Telecommunication Union and aims at assisting countries in identifying their areas of improvement under the 5 defined pillars.  Considering technological advancements, the GCI is continuously reviewed to factor in changing risks, priorities and resources among others.
