The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) will sign an agreement with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China on mutual administrative assistance in customs matters (the “Agreement”).
The objective of the Agreement will be to provide a framework under which both customs administrations would provide mutual assistance to each other with a view to better enforcing Customs laws, combatting customs offences and ensuring the security of the trade supply chain. With exports of around USD 993 million made to the island in 2023, China is the biggest trading partner for Mauritius and this Agreement is a welcome move to ensure transparency in the customs process, whilst minimizing the likelihood of any administrative mishaps.
