The FTA Cooperation Forum held on 31 August 2023 in Mauritius, brought together high officials from both countries and provided a comprehensive update on the trade flows between China and Mauritius since the FTA came into effect.  Mauritian exports to China are expected to soar to MUR 110 billion in 2023, representing an increase of 7.8% compared to 2022.

It will be recalled that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Mauritius and China, which was the first FTA entered by China with an African country, was signed in October 2019 and took effect as from 1 January 2021.  The FTA provides duty-free access to around 8,200 Mauritian products into the Chinese market.
